Come join the fun and soar with the ravens, at Avenal Ca. for the first annual

AVENAL VINTAGE SAILPLANE REGATTA
October 6, 7, and 8, 2007

Avenal is a dedicated gliderport with  numerous landing/launching options, owned and
operated by the Central California Soaring Club. It is a safe and easy spot to fly,
with fairly reliable lift year round, and is perfectly suited for vintage gliders.

FEES/REQUIREMENTS
To fly at Avenal as P.I.C., one must be an appropriately rated pilot, and a club member. For this event, we are offering a one-month membership with full membership privileges (like access to the cheapest tows in California, and being able to leave a glider/trailer on the field, while a member, at no additional cost!), for $30, which is our regular monthly club membership dues. To fly at Avenal you must also be a current member of the SSA (group insurance requirements). Pre-registration preferred, but not required (info towards bottom)

PILOT INFO

Avenal is a easy and fun airport to fly from, with our main runway (31/13) being 3200' long, 450' wide, and with ample crosswind options and no obstructions. As such, pilots will not be required to pay for a field checkout to fly their own gliders. However, the services of our competent and friendly instructors are most certainly available for anyone who wishes to familiarize themselves with the site before flying their own craft. It is recommended to all visitors to browse our website www.soaravenal.com for additional airport info.

Pilots without their own aircraft, who take advantage of the temporary membership offer and want to fly, may fly the club ships for the normal club price of $7 per flight + tow, if appropriately qualified to fly in that type of glider, and have received a field checkout by one of our CFIG's. Bring your logbooks etc. Towing is accomplished with our Cessna 150 Aerobat (180 h.p.). The150 is capable of safely towing gliders as slow as 50mph and as fast as 100mph. It has plenty of power to tug larger gliders too, as our field elevation is only 790' MSL. It is highly recommended that pilots bring their own weak links, appropriate to their gliders, as the club may not be able to provide the correct ones. Pilots with open cockpits--these are dirt runways, and as such can be a little dusty on takeoff. Be sure to bring  goggles and a scarf, or something to keep dirt out of your smile on initial roll.

REGISTRATION
Although it is not a requirement, it would be great if pilots could pre-register (before September 6). If enough people pre-register, we can arrange for catered barbecue, with delicious $6 lunches and $12 dinners. If not, we are on "potluck status" , and there are also dining options in town.
